Buffalo, N.Y. – Abbie grew up in Hettinger, North Dakota, with four other siblings and developed a competitive spirit early on. In high school, Abbie played volleyball, basketball and ran track, but loved basketball the most. This passion for sports led Abbie to realize how sports can impact people on and off the court and how it is more than just a game.
Abbie graduated from Dickinson State University (DSU) and received a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Communication. Right away, she learned how much she loved being involved by playing basketball at the university, photographing the sports teams, a local official and a student worker for the DSU Heritage Foundation. While playing basketball at DSU, Abbie unfortunately tore her knee; however, not being able to stay away from sports, Abbie started golfing. As a left handed golfer, she struggled learning the game, but with a lot of patience and practice, she began to enjoy it.
After graduating at DSU, Abbie felt like her education wasn’t complete just yet. Wanting a diverse major and a top rated graduate school, Abbie took a leap of faith and moved across the country to attend Syracuse University to study Public Relations. On her very first day of school, Abbie knew she made the right choice. Syracuse brought her friends and a new perspective, encouraging her to apply to the WNYPGA.
“This was the perfect opportunity to begin my professional career in sports,” Abbie said. “I am so excited to join this team and work in the game of golf!”
As the new WNYPGA WORKS Fellow, Abbie hopes to apply her knowledge of sports communication in a professional setting. Being new to the game of golf and from a diverse background, she is eager to network! Abbie’s athletic background in team sports is what drew Abbie to the position. Her goal is to be fully immersed in the rich history behind one of America’s fastest growing recreational sports.
