October 2020

For Immediate Release:

East Amherst, New York: Of the 41 PGA of America Sections only 14 sections were lucky enough to pilot the Doubles Golf USA Program in their section and the Western New York PGA Section was one of those sections.

Doubles Golf is the new trademarked two-player scramble format that is a way to focus on the underutilized asset of golf – FUN!  It is also a way for amateur players to qualify for a National Championship. Key highlights of the Doubles Golf program include 9-Hole play, short yardage, scramble format, faster play, food & beverage revenue for the club, opportunity to bring in new members and engage the unengaged population (i.e. social members).

Glen Oak Golf Course in East Amherst, New York hosted the Western New York PGA Section/State Doubles Golf Championship in September to determine the four teams that would represent the section at the National Championship. One team from each division (Men’s, Women’s, Mixed Doubles, and Senior’s) at the Section Championship qualified for the National Championship.

The USA National Doubles Golf Championship will be hosted at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida. Four teams from the Western New York PGA Area will  be competing in the event against other Doubles Golf teams from across the country. The following individuals will be participating in the National Championship at the Bear’s Club:

Men’s Team: Steven Bartkowski and John Osberg (Glen Oak Golf Course)

Women’s Team: Janet Cook and Kim Karagetis (Niagara Frontier Golf Club)

Mixed Doubles Team: Jim Dunlop and Cathy Dunlop (Crag Burn Golf Club)

Senior’s Team: Jim Atwood and Mike Rose (Glen Oak Golf Course)
