The Western New York PGA Section officially launched its 2026 Major Championship slate at the picturesque Lake View Country Club in North East, Pennsylvania. Serving as the host site for back-to-back major events, Lake View CC provided an immaculate yet formidable test for the Section’s top professional talent during the WNYPGA Assistant PGA Professional Championship and the WNYPGA Senior PGA Professional Championship.

Barclay Triumphs in Assistant Championship

In the WNYPGA Assistant PGA Professional Championship, Alex Barclay, Assistant Professional at Springville Country Club, delivered a stellar two round performance to claim the coveted championship title. For his first major win, Alex fired rounds of 74 and 68 to finish 2-under with a total score of 142.

Navigating Lake View’s tight fairways and undulating greens with composure and precision, Alex set the pace early and maintained control down the stretch against a competitive field of Assistant Professionals from across Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.

WNYPGA Hall of Famer Jon Hoecker Claims Senior Title

The WNYPGA Senior PGA Professional Championship featured an equally compelling showcase of veteran talent with Jon Hoecker, PGA, Director of Golf at Brook-Lea Country Club, adding another major title to his legendary resume.

Jon, a WNYPGA Hall of Fame inductee, former Section President (2007–2009), and multi-time Section Champion, demonstrated why he remains one of the area’s premier players. Relying on steady shot making and years of championship experience, Jon fired solid back-to-back rounds of 73 and 73 to finish 2-over with a total score of 146 to capture the Senior PGA Championship trophy.
