The Western New York PGA Section continues to evolve through strong leadership, thoughtful innovation, and a deep respect for the traditions of the game. This Women’s History Month, we are proud to spotlight the women whose influence is shaping our Section’s present and future. From daily operations to player development and community outreach, their contributions are helping redefine what leadership in golf looks like across Western New York.

Two individuals stand out as beacons of leadership and professional achievement: Debby Murphy, PGA, and Beatrice Smith, PGA. Debby Murphy, the Head Golf Professional at Webster Golf Club, has been a cornerstone of the PGA of America since becoming a Member in 1991. Since joining the Webster team in 2020, her impact has been felt through her robust programming and her tireless work with PGA HOPE and PGA Jr. League. Her commitment to excellence was recognized early in her career when she was named the recipient of the WNYPGA Youth Player Development Award in 1996. Beyond her facility, Debby continues to serve the Section as an active committee member where she contributes to the intentional planning that drives our collective success.

We are also thrilled to officially welcome Beatrice Smith, PGA, into the Western New York PGA Section as she begins her landmark role as the Head Golf Professional at Monroe Golf Club. A PGA Member since 2017, Beatrice arrives in our Section with a highly decorated professional background. Her expertise includes player development, golf operations, and retail management. Beatrice has also been recognized early in her career, earning the 2024 Philadelphia PGA Justin Riegel Assistant Golf Professional of the Year. Much like the historic names that have echoed through our Section’s history, Debby and Beatrice are building legacies of their own, proving that leadership in golf is measured by the lives touched and the standards of service maintained. Their presence at the helm of their respective facilities serves as a blueprint for the next generation of female professionals.

That next generation is already making waves on the national and state levels through the WNYPGA Junior Tour. We are incredibly proud of Claire Brady, a standout Junior Tour and PGA Junior League participant who also gives back to the game through her work with First Tee Western New York. Claire’s dedication has earned her a prestigious trip to Augusta, GA, where she will represent our region in the Drive, Chip & Putt (DCP) National Finals.

The momentum continues with Lily Zhang and Natalie Wassik, both participants of the WNYPGA Junior Tour, who were recently selected for the 2026 New York State National Development Team. Their selection is a testament to our Section Professionals who dedicate their time to junior golf initiatives. As these young women head into their respective competitions, they carry with them the support of the entire Section and the inspiration provided by the female leaders who paved the way before them.

As we look toward the 2026 season, the Western New York PGA continues to prioritize an environment where both seasoned professionals and aspiring athletes can excel. By bridging the gap between today’s leaders and tomorrow’s champions, we are ensuring our Section’s legacy remains as strong as its future.
