The stakes are never higher than at the WNYPGA Section Championship, and the 2026 edition delivered all the drama, exceptional shot-making, and camaraderie we’ve come to expect. Hosted at the pristine Stafford Country Club, this year’s championship culminated in a gripping finish that will be remembered for years to come.
Congratulations to Josh Kuhn, PGA, an Assistant Professional at Oak Hill Country Club, who emerged victorious to claim the title of 2026 WNYPGA Section Champion and his first major title! Showcasing remarkable consistency under pressure, Kuhn fired two steady, even-par rounds of 72 to finish regulation tied at the top of the leaderboard with Kirk Stauffer, PGA. In a tense sudden-death playoff with Stauffer, Kuhn knocked down a clutch birdie on the second playoff hole to secure his hard-earned victory in spectacular fashion.
With this phenomenal win, Kuhn has officially punched his ticket to the 2027 National PGA Professional Championship, which will be held at the breathtaking Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Florida.
Kuhn won’t be making the trip to the Sunshine State alone. A massive congratulations is also in order for Kirk Stauffer, PGA of Chautauqua Golf Club, and Nick Palladino, PGA of Crag Burn Golf Club. Both competitors battled fiercely throughout the day, navigating a challenging field to successfully qualify for the National PPC alongside Kuhn. We know Josh, Kirk, and Nick will represent the Western New York Section with pride and professionalism, and we wish them the absolute best of luck as they prepare to compete on the national stage.
Additionally, three talented alternates successfully qualified and are waiting in the wings to be pulled from our Section if the opportunity arises. Hats off to our alternates: Anthony Schiro, PGA of Glen Oak Golf Club, Tim Fries, PGA of Glen Oak Golf Club, and Jacob Eckley, PGA of Woods to Wedges. We are hopeful they will get the call to further boost WNY’s representation at Streamsong!
