The WNYPGA is proud to recognize Ralph Haas, PGA who has been a professional in the Section for 70 years. Elected to Membership June 1, 1954, Haas is a staple in the WNY golf landscape and embodies what it means to be a PGA Golf Professional by displaying the values of honor and integrity that are so much a part of the game.

     From 1954-99, Haas spent his career as the Head Professional at Transit Valley Country Club, and in 1999, he became a Life Member. A fine player as well, Haas won the Senior-Junior Championship in 1986 and 1999 with partner Lonnie Nielsen, PGA. Haas was named Professional of the Year in 1967, awarded the Bill Strausbaugh Award in 1985, and received the Private Merchandiser of the Year in 1986. Haas was also celebrated as the WNY Classic Honoree in 2021.

     Hass was inducted into the WNYPGA Hall of Fame in 1991 for his contributions and accomplishments within the Section, as well as at the National level. In 1970, Haas was elected as the District 4 Director. In his two year tenure, he served on both the Ryder Cup and Championship Tournament Committees making historic decisions that had major impacts on the PGA of America. 

     Haas dedicated his career to growing and promoting the game of golf and serving the membership of the WNYPGA as Treasurer from 1955-60, Vice President from 1960-63, and President from 63-65. Haas embodies the PGA of America’s mission in establishing and elevating the standards of the profession and growing participation in the game.

     The WNYPGA, its members, staff, and the entire WNY golf community will forever be grateful for the unwavering dedication that Haas displayed over the course of his membership. Thank you, Ralph Haas!
